And here’s the Lastcast Podcast! (Yup! We have a name.)

After much delay, part 2!

Sorry that took so long. Next time I’ll just record the call and save myself some hassle. I realise I’m probably putting too much time into editing each of our tracks individually considering it’s all done “live”. In my defence, I was doing a fair bit of programming this week.

Anyway, here it is. Enjoy. In part two we discuss different topics that we each come up with, as well as upcoming releases.

As for the video we refer to, you can find it: here, should you jump to 1:15.

Someone Asked For Music

So, here’s the final cut of the Pilot for our Podcast. It has room for improvement, but I’m pretty satisfied with the result. Also: it includes music because we had a request for that. Let me know how that goes.

The Real Podcast Pilot?

So here we go, part 1 of the Unnamed Podcast. If you have any suggestions, please deliver. This is the half-assed edited version, as in, I edited half of it and slapped the rest together to put up here for people to hear.

The actually edited version will appear on the channel with footage, preferably, relative to the topic. The thing I need to remove is Kisrui moving around because HIS MIC IS HIS LAPTOP, gawd.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Part 2 of 3 of the original Podcast. As like the last one, this is only about ten to fifteen minutes long.

Also: breathing.

Wait, What? I’m Producing A Game?

So, when I was younger, I used to develop video games using god awful engines such as RPGMaker. Now, through this, I did develop a reasonable understanding of game design.

Presently, I’m in a programming course geared more primarily for video games as well. With that in mind, I’ve decided to revisit an age old title and really bring it up to speed. The game was called Misthalin Memories (and nothing to do with RuneScape - you can blame a friend for the naming scheme).

Misthalin Memories is being designed from the ground up. Any concepts I used to have I now have to re-design and refine, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. The purpose of the game is, quite frankly, to improve on the aspect of role playing found in video games now because I am utterly dissatisfied. Gaming quality has improved, but role playing hasn’t really improved in over a decade and many games even claim to be RPG’s without a single shred of role playing.

The goal is to essentially create a simulator like The Elder Scrolls, but with the level of focus towards the story like in a Bioware RPG. To put it bluntly, I want to structure an incredible story that can be fully manipulated by the player with their available tools in an dynamic environment. I want the player to see situations occur and decide how they themselves get involved. Do you want to join the evil faction? Sure. Would you like to stop a character helping another one from doing something in the story? Go find them within the world and kill them.

I basically want a situation where the main villain can be trying to do something, but the player figures that they can stop the villain by removing his right hand man whom he heavily relies on. They chat with NPC’s and discover, “Hey, the right hand man passes through here regularly” and then come at his expected time to kill him. Suddenly, that causes a huge problem for the main villain. The hero may not be good enough to beat the villain, but he can certainly be good enough to interfere.

I want a dynamic environment, but one that works well for gaming. A completely real time environment like Skyrim, but with a heavily developed story is actually something really difficult. It’s things like this that I need to fix and design, which is why I came up with the ‘Stage Shift’ concept. But I’ll get to that another time.

So, yeah. I’m working on a game and I’ll be talking about it on here too.

A little explanation of writing

So what exactly is The Repercussion of the 3 Ka’s though? Well, it’s part of a series that I developed with two of my school mates. I’ve recently decided to breath life into it, and get back into writing it again. Essentially, the stories are crafted by one of the three of us, and is based around our character. My character was Rasenore Kasai, which is who the protagonist of that piece is. (I also have plans to revisit the naming board, although the rule says that I need ‘Ka’ in the name somewhere).

It’s set in a world akin to our own, but travesty has struck as a taint spread across the land. This altered many creatures and morphed them. Some claim it’s a test from God (spoiler: it is), and so on. Through experimentation with the taint, humanity has learned to control it and use it for it’s own gain, which serves as the purpose for the organization within the world. Of course, there are still various things they do not understand about it, but for the moment the taint also serves as their own defence against the consequence of the taint spreading in the wild.

The Repercussion is the one I decided to start with, because it’s set at the most interesting time. The three central characters: Rasenore Kasai, Artemis Kaen and Tsuyama Mizu-Kata, have become an overwhelming force for the actual organization (which we’ve yet to name). However, it is also their unified force that becomes the source of the planet’s destruction and ruin. The Repercussion is set after the chaos that the protagonists have lead to ensue, and revolves around how they adapt to the changing environment and experience the repercussion of their actions.
